Jaynee
Reese named 2007 Cameos of Caring awardee for UPMC Horizon
Farrell,
PA — Jaynee Reese, RN, BSN, has been named this year’s
Cameos of Caring awardee for UPMC Horizon. She will represent the
hospital at the Cameos of Caring Awards Gala this fall at the David
L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh.
Established
in 1999 by the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, Cameos
of Caring recognizes exceptional nurses in the region.
Ms. Reese is
a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at UPMC Horizon.
She received her diploma in nursing from what is now Sharon Regional
Health System School of Nursing and later earned a bachelor’s
degree in nursing from Penn State University.
Ms. Reese says
she was drawn to the nursing profession out of the desire to care
for her grandparents and elderly friends of the family while growing
up. She also can remember watching medical-themed television programs,
which further fueled her interest in nursing.
Ms. Reese enjoys
facing new challenges when caring for patients and is proud that
she can use the knowledge and skills she has developed over the
years to help her patients return to good health, both physically
and emotionally.
“I view
my career as a very important contribution to society, and I hope
that others can see that I truly care about what I do,” she
says.
One patient
that represents complete satisfaction in emergency nursing for Ms.
Reese was a man who was initially diagnosed with lung disease during
a visit to the ED.
“During
the next several months, his condition deteriorated and he came
to the Emergency Department several times for care,” she says.
“Through the process there was an opportunity to get to know
both him and his family. I was present the day he passed away, and
I felt very fulfilled when the patient’s wife said, ‘I’m
glad you were here.’”
Ms. Reese, who
lives in West Middlesex, is a member of the Golden Key National
Honor Society. She plans to take the emergency nursing certification
exam in the near future and plans to eventually pursue a master’s
degree in nursing.
