New Castle doctors join UPMC Horizon obstetric and pediatric programs

Farrell, PA — As UPMC Horizon’s maternity and child health services programs continue to grow, two expert physicians from the New Castle area — Kelly Palumbo, MD, obstetrics and gynecology, and Richard Papa, DO, pediatrics — have joined UPMC Horizon’s medical staff further expanding UPMC Horizon’s commitment to be the premier regional provider of maternal child health services.

With her private practice based in New Castle, Dr. Palumbo joins the team of obstetricians/gynecologists focused on providing a personalized delivery experience at The Birth Place of UPMC Horizon, located at UPMC Horizon’s Shenango Valley campus.
A graduate of Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., Dr. Palumbo earned her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia. She completed an obstetrics/gynecology residency at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, Ohio.

Dr. Palumbo is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a member of the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Lawrence County Medical Society.

Dr. Papa, a retired United States Army lieutenant colonel, earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He was the sole pediatrician at an army hospital in Italy and chief of pediatric services at Patterson Army Community Hospital in Fort Monmouth, N.J., and at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Fort Campbell, Ky., before establishing his thriving pediatric practice in New Castle.
