Gynecologic
oncology specialist offering services at Womancare Center
Hermitage,
PA — Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, in partnership
with UPMC Horizon, brings Mercer County’s first gynecologic
oncology specialist to women in the community with local appointments
at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon.
Robert Edwards, MD, of the Magee-Womens Oncology Program of UPMC
Cancer Centers, is now seeing patients at the Womancare Center.
Dr. Edwards is the only provider of gynecology/oncology services
in the region.
Gynecologic
oncologists specialize in cancers of the female reproductive organs,
including cervical, uterine, ovarian, and vaginal cancer.
Dr. Edwards
received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He
completed a residency at Magee-Womens Hospital and a fellowship
with the University of Alabama.
Presently on the medical staffs of Magee-Womens Hospital, UPMC Passavant
and UPMC Shadyside, Dr. Edwards is board-certified in obstetrics/gynecology
and gynecologic oncology. His research interests include immunologic
responses to cancer and he is involved in multiple research projects
related to the understanding and treatment of cervical cancer. Research
studies of specific interest include cervical cancer vaccines, the
development of cervical cancer, and the latest and most advanced
treatment options available.

Dr. Edwards
is the latest in a group of UPMC surgery specialists who now see
patients at UPMC Horizon’s multi-specialty surgery suite.
Other surgical oncology specialties in the suite include liver,
colorectal, biliary tract, thyroid, and pancreatic cancers.
