New
Surgical Inpatient Unit to Open at UPMC Horizon Shenango Valley
Campus
Farrell,
PA — UPMC Horizon plans to expand its bed capacity
to include a new 11-bed surgical unit at its hospital campus in
Farrell. The bed expansion is in response to continued market growth
and local demand for inpatient surgical services at UPMC Horizon.
“Through
our relationship with UPMC, UPMC Horizon is able to offer our community
access to the largest network of general surgery and surgical specialists
in the region. Because of our ability to bring the advanced care
of UPMC right here at home, we have seen steady growth among our
residents choosing UPMC Horizon as their hospital-of-choice for
surgical services.” says Joel Yuhas, president.
Internal renovations
will begin in March. The new unit is expected to create additional
jobs for Mercer County. The hospital is currently hiring new staff.
Surgical services
at UPMC Horizon are growing systemwide. Last year, UPMC Horizon
launched a $5.5 million renovation of its Greenville campus surgical
suites to further develop its minimally-invasive surgery program
and bariatric (weight loss) surgery program, which is recognized
as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric
Surgery.
