Orthopaedics
UPMC Horizon is one
of the leading hospitals in Pennsylvania in terms of numbers of total
joint replacement procedures performed.
Most total joint replacement
patients are out of bed the day following surgery, and the typical postoperative
stay is three to four days. When these patients are medically stable,
they usually go to either the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit or the Transitional
Care Center.
Inpatient rehab
for people who have had total joint replacements consists of three
hours of physical and occupational therapy a day for five to seven
days. Inpatient rehab is also utilized by patients who have had
strokes,
hip fractures, amputations, and back surgeries. Outpatient rehabilitation
services are available for those who need it.
